Hot Ice Wonder

This past summer, I spent a couple days at Doe Bay Resort, on Orcas Island. (Highly recommended!) While I was there, I was captivated by this bowl that was on display in the store. It was a raffle prize for a good cause – education for kids in Nepal, I think (god I hope I'm not getting that wrong). I thought what the heck, I'd love to win that bowl... and I bought 7 tickets. Tucked them away, and went on with life.
Several months later, I found the tickets, decided I must not have won, and threw them out. And then, within a week, I got an email telling me that actually... I WON!
I couldn't believe it. I never win things.
So I waited until the whole housing situation settled down, and then I sent along my new mailing address. Yesterday, my prize arrived. And it is gorgeous!
It's made by a man named Joe Symons. He produces very amazing and very distinctive work in his studio on Orcas Island – Hot Ice Studio.
From his website:
Crystals grown on the surface of porcelain clay transform and replay the radiant delight of the sun. These crystals simultaneously evoke a desire to deepen a heart-fueled connection with one’s true self.
There are almost no crystal potters in the world. The process of coaxing crystals to grow exceeds the exasperation level of even the dedicated (that's why you may have never seen these before.)
